Buddhist flags and a Buddha Rupa welcome
visitors entering the drive.
The Upajjhaya, Ven. Phra Ajahn Khemadhammo,
receives the offering tray from Samanera Manapo who will be applying for
ordination into the bhikkhu sangha.
Samanera Manapo begs for dependence (nissaya).
Samanera Manapo leaves to be examined outside
of the assembly.
Samanera Manapo waits in the adjacent small
shrine room for the two acariyas who will question him to see whether he
qualifies for ordination as a bhikkhu.
Those witnessing his ordination include his
mother and brother and his sponsor, Khun Laksana Supsakorn, with her husband
and daughter.
The Upajjhaya, Ven. Phra Ajahn Khemadhammo,
informs the Sangha of the samanera's application and the intention after
proper examination of the candidate for the Sangha to give Upasampada.
The two acariyas put the motion and announce
to the Sangha that this samanera wishes for Upasampada from Ven. Phra Ajahn
Khemadhammo, that he is free from obstructions and he has his robes and
bowl complete. If it is agreeable to the Sangha to grant the Upasampada
then it should remain silent. This is put three times and then when
no objection is raised it is announced that this is agreeable to the Sangha.
And so at 1.11 p.m. Manapo became a bhikkhu.
Ven. Manapo Bhikkhu has requisites presented
to him by his sponsor, Khun Laksana.
Khun Laksana's daughter also makes a presentation
with Ven. Manapo's mother looking on.
Ven. Phra Ajahn Khemadhammo hands a gift
to one of the visiting monks.
Ven. Phra Ajahn Khemadhammo talks on the
significance, the benefits and the obligations of ordination.
